If you have a computer then you almost certainly understand the problems caused by the windows xp error messages. We rely so much on our computers that it can be so stressful and so worrying when our computers throw up an error message. These error messages don't have nice names either. Saying Illegal, or Fatal isn't very reassuring really. It sounds like your computer is on its last legs and is about to die. In actual fact your computer isn't on its death bed.
Most people will be so scared by this message that they switch of their computer and then phone up a technical support guy to come and have a look. Actually just switching it off might be enough to help. There are thousands of different error codes which windows can generate, and nobody will be able to understand what they all mean without doing a lot of research.
One of the most common windows xp error messages that you will experience is This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. I've seen that one hundreds of times, it doesn't get any less annoying, trust me. Only people new to computers would bother contacting the supplier of the software like they are instructed to do so. They don't care about you, and wont help you out.
Fixing XP and Windows Vista Problems
It's actually really easy to fix the majority of windows error messages, a simple reboot should be just enough. Unless you like to play around with your computer and work out the problem you can just reset it and carry on as normal. There are however some error messages that you need to be more cautious of.
Blue Screen of Death Errors
These are fairly serious errors and the computer can't be bothered to give a message. However just reboot, it's probably a system error that you will never come across again.
Windows Protection Error
This is caused by a device driver error or conflict. The best way to resolve this is to reboot your computer and then enter windows in safe mode. In safe mode you will be able to uninstall the driver and then install it again. Sometimes this problem can also be caused by memory and registry problems. To fix registry errors you should use a registry scanner such as Regcure which can be downloaded by clicking here.
Kernel32.dll errors
This file is responsible for a large number of different processes, if you experience this problem then it could be a result of a corrupt registry, problems with your CPU, damaged files, driver problems, virus, or even because you don't have enough hard drive space. It can also be caused by hardware problems such as your PSU failing, or your computer is overheating. You should first try using a registry scanner to see if this is the problem.
Nine times out of ten the computer will be able to repair itself just by rebooting, chances are next time you will see a different error message, not the same one again!
When windows XP was first launched it was said to be the most secure and stable windows operating system available, which wasn't really saying a whole lot really when you come to think about it. This was based on the NT kernel which was previously only used for business environments. It is much more stable than Windows 98, and all predecessors.
Even though XP is more stable than other windows operating systems there are some problems which can affect it and cause lots of problems.
Guide to Windows Repair
You need to find out the exact error code generated, to do this you need to stop your computer automatically restarting when it encounters an error. To do this right click My computer?and then select properties. In this options window select Advanced, and then select Settings. You will find a setting marked Startup and Recovery, here you should clear the box which is marked automatically restart. This means that your computer will display a blue screen of death instead of restarting.
Next time you have this problem note down the error code and search for it using the Microsoft knowledge base at http://support.microsoft.com, or just by using your search engine.
