The windows registry is often responsible for a number of different computer errors, including slow performance or lots of error messages popping up on your screen. The registry is just a database where windows stores all of the information about your computers configuration and set up. To speed you your computer and get it firing on all cylinders again you need to look into ways to fix corrupt registry. There are plenty of Free Registry fix utilities out there, but are these really the best way to go?
There are plenty of different ways which you can fix windows registry without having to download any other software, however the results are much more hit and miss, and the whole process is much more risky!
Manually fix the registry using registry editor
Of course it is possible to fix registry errors yourself without having to download any new tools or utilities. Windows even comes built in with a registry editor, it's just hidden away and most people don't even know about it. To access it, click on start, then run. Now you need to type “regedit” in the box and press enter, this will run registry editor. At first you might find yourself feeling right at home as it looks very much like any other windows application, however that feeling of happiness will be short lived! You can go through the registry and delete invalid keys by pressing delete, however one wrong move and your computer might not even boot into windows again!
Manually fixing windows registry errors is very dangerous, it's very likely that you will end up accidentally deleting a key which is needed and will cause irreparable damage to your PC. While it is possible to repair your windows registry manually, it's not advisable.
Uninstall and Reinstall Applications
Another way which sometimes works to fix errors in the registry is to uninstall the software which you are having problems with and then simply install it again. This occasionally works, because it prevents conflicts, but sometimes it could actually make the problem worse!
The reason some people will suggest uninstalling and then reinstalling pieces of software is because it should remove the corrupted registry keys and then replace them with new ones when you install it. However this rarely happens, when software is uninstalled the registry entries are commonly left untouched. This means that the registry errors will remain and still cause you problems.
Windows System Restore
Another option to repair the errors in your windows registry is to do a system restore. All versions of windows after XP include a system restore feature which is a great way to save time and prevent you having to reinstall the whole application. Your system will remember how it was set up before and store this as a system restore point. If anything bad happens to your computer then it is possible to roll back your computer to a previous time.
Registry Repair Software
